High School Diploma Or GED, ESL, & Mentoring

Our staff believes that a good educational presentation is an essential tool in the development of a plan for each trainee’s successful future.  Preparation for the high school diploma and/or the GED is designed to enhance math and reading skills.  There are essential tools that lead to opportunities and economic growth for the community as well as the trainees.
An entrance test will be given to each participant to determine what educational skills are needed.  This will help to prepare the participants in earning their high school diploma or GED.  Participants with a high school diploma or GED, who test low, will be tutored in an effort to enhance reading and mathematical skills. Participants will be provided with a monthly evaluation outlining status and progress to date.

The ESL programming is geared towards assisting individuals with citizenship requirements and improving their language skills needed for employment opportunities.

The Mentoring programs pair’s seniors, professionals, K-12, and young adults according to needs for employment skills, math and reading enhancement, and homework assistance.  Mentoring is an effective tool to enhance the success of youth.  But building truly resilient youth and protective communities requires that mentoring to be available in all the environments in which children and youth function.  Mentoring structures provide a stable resource of trained community members who understand the powerful effect of a protective community and incorporate caring and support, high expectations, and valued participation into all of their interactions.  This will assist our participants in weathering the daily challenges of live, as well as the great storms they may encounter.
